WELCOME
TO
KERALA

God's Own country

Kerala enjoys unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Asia. An equable climate. A long shoreline with serene beaches. Tranquil stretches of backwaters. Lush hill stations and exotic wildlife. Waterfalls. Sprawling plantations and paddy fields. Ayurvedic health holidays. Enchanting art forms. Magical festivals. Historic and cultural monuments, exotic cuisine... all of which offer you a unique experience.
Kerala, India's most advanced society, with one hundred percent literacy. World-class health care systems. India's lowest infant mortality and highest life expectancy rates. The highest physical quality of life in India. Peaceful and pristine, Kerala is India's cleanest State.
In a mood of profound atonement, the sage heaved his mighty axes into the midst of the distant ocean. The waves foamed and frothed as a prawn-shaped land extending from Gokarnam to Kanyakumari surfaced from the depths of the sea to form the State and hence the sobriquet 'Gods Own Country'.

It s a famous pilgrimage centre, St. George Forane Church( Edathua palli) & Chakkulathukavu Sree Bhagavathy Temple are situated here.

Chakkulathukavu Devi Temple

Chakkulathamma is famously known as the Mother who answers the call of her devotees. Countless pilgrims irrespective of caste creed and colour reach the shrine. The benevolent look of Goddess unfolds a thousand lotus flowers of real bhakthi in the minds of devotees. Chanting of Her names and mantras destroys the feelings of ignorance and pride like the flames of fire that overcomes the darkness.

St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Niranam( Niranam Pally)

Niranam Church has a rich history of being the symbol of Christian faith in Kerala and a citadel of Orthodox Christianity since its inception in AD 54 by St Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. St Thomas reached Kerala in AD 52 and started preaching the gospel. He founded 8 churches, which are called ‘Ezhara Pallikal’, meaning seven and half churches. These were at Kodungallur, Kollam, Niranam, Nilackal (Chayal), Kokkamangalam, Kottakkayal (Paravoor), Palayoor (Chattukulangara) and Thiruvithamkode (the half church). St. Thomas who had great respect for the Holy Virgin, named all these churches after St. Mary. At Niranam

St. Peters and St. Pauls Indian Orthodox Church ( Parumala Palli )

St. Peters and St. Pauls Indian Orthodox Church, popularly known as Parumala Church/Parumala Pally is a very famous church situated on the shores of the river “Pampa” at Parumala, a small town in the most beautiful Southern State of India, Kerala. The church is one of the independent parish of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, which was founded by St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, who came to India in A.D. 52.   The church contains the tomb of Saint Geevargese Mar Gregorios, popularly known as Parumala Thirumeni, who died on 2 November 1902 at the age of 54. The many testimonies to the saintly intercession of Mar Gregorios made Parumala Church and the tomb a centre of pilgrimage. In 1947 Mar Gregorios of blessed memory was declared a saint by the then Catholicos of the church, His Holiness Baselius Geevarghese II.  Parumala Perunnal, the feast of Parumala Church is conducted annually from Oct 26th to November 2nd to commemorate his death anniversary, when devotees from all parts of the world swarm the grounds of the church to celebrate this great day.

Haripad Sree Subrahmanya Swamy temple

The Sree Subrahmanya Swamy temple (Perumthrikkovil) in Haripad is one of the largest and oldest temples in Kerala. It is dedicated to Subrahmanya Swamy is known as Dakshina Palani (Southern Palani). It is believed that the temple was established even before the advent of Kali Yuga. It is the largest Subrahmanya Swami Temple in Kerala with longest golden flagpost or dhwajastambha (kodimaram in Malayalam).

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Kshetram is an ancient pilgrimage centre situated in south-west Kerala. Of all the places of serpent worship in the world. there is none that is more benign, awe-inspiring and legendary than Mannarasala, as blessed and envisaged by Lord Parasurama, the creator of Kerala. The evolution of Mannarasala as the supreme place of worship of the serpent Gods is associated with Parasurama, the son of Jamadagini and a descendant of Bhrigu. When Parasurama decided to seek atonement from the sin of killing the Kshatriyas, he approached the holy Rishis. They suggested that he should make a gift of a land of his own to the Brahmins. Parasurama propitiated Varuna Deva (the Lord of the Seas) to get some land for himself. Varuna appeared before and advised him to throw his parasu, the axe which Lord Siva had given him, into the sea to reclaim land. He throws it and raises a piece of land from the sea and gives it as a gift to the Brahmins. This land is believed to be the present-day Kerala.

Payippadu Vallam Kali

Ananthapuram Palace

The 18th-century palace with four courtyards (‘pathinaru kettu’) and conforming to the vasthu architecture of Travancore is bearing a rich legacy in the evolution of Malayalam literature. Anandhapuram palace had witnessed the birth of many Malayalam and Sanskrit works of Valiya Koyithampuran. Fifth generation descendants of the Thampuran are now living in the palace. The structure is constructed in ‘surki,’ a mixture of lime and clay, and the roof in wood. Now, the roofing structure is facing termite attacks. Valiya Koyithampuran had stayed in the palace for more than five years after being placed under house arrest from 1875 to 1880 by Travancore king Ayilyam Thirunal. Among the noted works he created during the time are ‘Kshamapana Sahasram,’ ‘Yamapranama Sathakam’ and ‘Visakha Vijayam’. The thread of his celebrated poem ‘Mayura Sandesam’ was also derived during his life in the palace.Thampuran had married Rani Lakshmi Bayi of Travancore Palace in 1859 and later came to stay there. As he had no children, the building was handed over to his sisters. Their ancestors have been living there since. The library and books in various languages used by Thampuran are preserved here.

 Krishnapuram Palace

The Krishnapuram Palace is a rare specimen of the Kerala style of architecture, complete with gabled roofs, narrow corridors and dormer windows. Residence of the rulers of Kayamkulam Kingdom, the age of the palace is unknown. Renovated in the 18th century, the palace is today a protected monument under the Archaeology Department. Recently it was again renovated according to the scientific techniques prescribed for the protection of heritage buildings. One can come across many rare antiques and paintings when exploring this beautiful palace.
