The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus – The Sacred Wonder of Grace and Grandeur

Once standing in the ancient city of Ephesus (near modern-day Selçuk, Turkey), the Temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, dedicated to Artemis — the Greek goddess of the hunt, fertility, and moon. Originally built around 550 BCE, it was an architectural marvel of marble columns, grand stairways, and intricate sculptures, symbolizing divine beauty and devotion.

The temple was destroyed and rebuilt multiple times due to fire and invasion, with its final destruction in the 3rd century CE. Today, only a few columns remain, yet the site continues to inspire awe — a reminder of human faith and craftsmanship that transcended centuries.

Visiting Ephesus with Christone Holidays lets you walk through the echoes of this sacred place, feel the serenity of its surroundings, and reconnect with a time when devotion shaped one of history’s most magnificent creations.

The Colossus of Rhodes – A Titan of Ancient Ingenuity

Standing over 30 meters tall at the entrance of Mandraki Harbour, the Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Built around 280 BCE, this towering bronze statue honored Helios, the Greek sun god, celebrating Rhodes’ victory over the invading forces of Cyprus. Crafted by the sculptor Chares of Lindos, it took nearly 12 years to complete and symbolized unity, strength, and triumph.

Unfortunately, the Colossus stood for only 56 years before an earthquake in 226 BCE toppled it. Even in ruins, its grandeur drew travelers for centuries, inspiring awe and wonder—so much so that its legend lived on to influence the Statue of Liberty’s design millennia later.

Where Light Once Ruled the Seas – The Lighthouse of Alexandria, with Christone Holidays.

History & Present Status:The Lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as the Pharos of Alexandria, stood proudly on Pharos Island in Egypt’s ancient harbor. Built around 280 BCE during the reign of Ptolemy II, it was one of the tallest structures of the ancient world — estimated between 100 and 130 meters high. Its brilliant light, produced by an open flame reflected through polished bronze mirrors, guided sailors safely into the bustling port of Alexandria for over 1,500 years.

Repeated earthquakes between the 10th and 14th centuries caused its gradual collapse, leaving behind only underwater ruins discovered by archaeologists in the late 20th century. Today, remnants of the Lighthouse lie beneath the Mediterranean, near Fort Qaitbey, which was later built using stones from the original structure.

Though it no longer stands, the Lighthouse of Alexandria remains a shining symbol of human ingenuity and the eternal quest to reach beyond the horizon.

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus – The Monument of Eternal Love and Legacy

Built around 350 BCE in the ancient city of Halicarnassus (modern-day Bodrum, Turkey), the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — a majestic tomb commissioned by Queen Artemisia II in memory of her husband, King Mausolus. Rising nearly 45 meters high, the structure combined Greek, Egyptian, and Lycian architectural styles, adorned with sculpted friezes and towering columns that reflected both love and power.

Though earthquakes eventually reduced it to ruins, the Mausoleum’s influence lives on — even the word “mausoleum” originates from this grand creation. Today, its remnants lie peacefully in Bodrum, whispering stories of devotion, artistry, and immortality.

Journey with Christone Holidays to explore this timeless site — where love was carved into stone, and remembrance became an art form.

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Iraq) -- The Lost Wonder

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon – The Lost Paradise of Ancient Mesopotamia

Counted among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon are famed for their breathtaking terraces of greenery, cascading waterfalls, and exotic blooms that seemed to float above the desert. Said to have been built in the 6th century BCE by King Nebuchadnezzar II, the gardens were a tribute to his queen, Amytis, who longed for the lush hills of her homeland.

While no definitive archaeological evidence of their existence has been found, ancient writings by historians like Strabo and Philo of Byzantium describe a marvel of engineering — with intricate irrigation systems that lifted water high into tiered gardens, creating an oasis of life in the heart of Mesopotamia.

Today, the mystery of the Hanging Gardens continues to enchant the imagination, symbolizing love, innovation, and humanity’s eternal desire to create beauty even in the harshest landscapes.

With Christone Holidays, step into the ancient lands of Iraq — the cradle of civilization — and feel the echoes of a wonder that may have touched both earth and heaven.
